Operation Sindoor: A Strike Against Terrorism
New Delhi: In the early hours between Tuesday and Wednesday, the Indian Army launched a fierce missile attack on nine terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), eliminating over 100 terrorists. This operation was a direct response to the recent terror attack in Pehalgam. During the press conference, Colonel Sofia Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh elaborated on the Indian Army’s decisive action.

    Who is Vyomika Singh?
Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, hailing from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, is a distinguished helicopter pilot in the Indian Air Force. Specializing in flying Chetak and Cheetah helicopters in challenging terrains, she is the first woman in her family to serve in the Air Force, contributing significantly to national security for the past 21 years.

A Dream Born in 6th Grade
When Vyomika was in the 6th grade, she learned that her name, meaning “flight,” inspired her to join the Indian Air Force. Determined to fulfill this dream, she joined the National Cadet Corps (NCC) during her school years and later entered the Air Force through the Short Service Commission.

Over 25,000 Hours of Flight Experience
With more than 25,000 hours of flight experience, Wing Commander Vyomika Singh is one of the most skilled helicopter pilots in the Indian Air Force. She has expertly flown Chetak and Cheetah helicopters in the rugged terrains of Jammu & Kashmir and Northeast India. Commissioned in 2004 through the 21st Short Service Commission (Women) Flying Pilot Course, she was promoted to Wing Commander in 2017 and granted a Permanent Commission in the Flying Branch in 2019.

    Heroic Contributions
Vyomika played a key role in a major rescue operation in Arunachal Pradesh in 2020. Additionally, in 2021, she participated in a mountaineering expedition at Mount Manirang, scaling 21,650 feet.
