Elon Musk’s Fallout with Trump Sparks Buzz of a New Political Party: The America Party

Tensions between tech mogul Elon Musk and President Donald Trump have escalated, with Musk hinting at launching a new political party after a public feud. A recent poll on X has fueled speculation about his next move.

Washington, D.C. – The once-cordial relationship between Tesla CEO Elon Musk and U.S. President Donald Trump has hit rock bottom, with public spats and policy disagreements spilling into the open. Musk, known for his bold moves, has now stirred political waters by teasing the creation of a new political party, tentatively named “The America Party,” which he claims would represent 80% of Americans.

    Musk’s X Poll Ignites Debate
Musk took to X, his social media platform, to conduct a poll asking if America needs a new political party to amplify the voice of the “moderate 80%.” Over 5.6 million users participated, with a resounding 80.4% voting in favor. Sharing the results, Musk wrote, “The people have spoken. America needs a party that represents the 80%.” The poll’s viral traction has sparked heated discussions, with political analysts speculating whether Musk is serious or merely testing the waters.

    Criticism of Trump’s Budget Bill
The rift widened when Musk publicly slammed Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill,” a proposed $2.4 trillion budget plan, calling it “disgusting” and fiscally irresponsible. Musk’s criticism didn’t stop there. On May 30, he resigned from his role as chief of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a position he held in Trump’s administration, citing irreconcilable differences over policy. “I cannot support a plan that burdens future generations with debt,” Musk stated on X.

    From Allies to Adversaries
Musk and Trump were once allies, with Musk donating over $220 million to support Trump’s 2024 campaign, according to Federal Election Commission records. Their camaraderie was evident during campaign rallies, where Musk was a vocal advocate. However, Trump recently expressed disappointment, saying, “I’m shocked and saddened by Elon’s words. We had a great relationship. I helped him a lot, but I don’t know if that will continue.” Political observers point to Musk’s growing influence and his push for government reform as the root of the clash.

The America Party: A Viable Contender?
A recent Pew Research study found that 62% of Americans are dissatisfied with the two-party system, fueling speculation that Musk’s proposed party could gain traction. Musk has hinted that The America Party would focus on fiscal responsibility, technological innovation, and reducing bureaucratic inefficiencies—core tenets of his DOGE agenda. However, experts like Dr. Sarah Coleman, a political scientist at Georgetown University, caution that launching a new party in America’s polarized landscape is a “Herculean task.” She noted, “Musk’s wealth and platform give him leverage, but translating online buzz into votes is a different game.”

    What’s Next for Musk?
Musk’s next steps remain unclear. Some speculate he may use his wealth—estimated at $400 billion by Forbes—to fund a political movement, while others believe he’s leveraging the buzz to pressure Trump’s administration. Posts on X show mixed reactions, with supporters chanting “Musk for President” (despite his South African birth making him ineligible) and critics dismissing the idea as a publicity stunt. Musk has not confirmed any concrete plans but continues to engage with followers on X, hinting at “big announcements” soon.
