Young Woman Shot Dead in East Delhi, Family Suspects Social Media Connection

New Delhi: A 20-year-old woman was brutally shot dead in GTB Enclave, East Delhi, on Monday night, sparking shock and outrage. The victim, identified as Sayra Parveen, had reportedly gone to meet a man she had befriended on social media, according to her grieving family members.

     Key Details of the Crime:

    – Time & Location: The incident occurred around 9:55 PM near MIG Flats in Sunder Nagri.

    – Injuries: The victim suffered two gunshot wounds—one to the left side of her head and another below the back of her neck.

    – Evidence: An empty bullet shell was recovered from the crime scene.

     CCTV Footage Reveals Chilling Details:

Police sources revealed that surveillance footage shows Sayra walking with a man shortly before the murder. Initial investigations suggest they knew each other, but an argument broke out, escalating into violence.

     Family’s Anguish:

Sayra’s elder sister, Shahida, shared that the victim had been emotionally vulnerable since their mother’s death from cancer a month ago. “She often met friends to cope. That night, she left saying she was meeting someone from social media,” Shahida said.

     Safety Concerns in the Area:

    – The crime spot, near a gated residential complex, had non-functional streetlights, making it a dark zone.

    – Residents and the RWA have long complained about poor lighting and lack of CCTV surveillance.

    – A security guard admitted, “Even we fear stepping out at night due to the darkness.”

     Police Action:

A case under BNS Section 103 (Murder) has been registered at GTB Enclave Police Station. Authorities are also probing whether Sayra was linked to a previous murder case as a witness.

     Outrage Over Negligence:

Local residents and activists are demanding immediate improvements in street lighting and security measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.

    Next Steps:

    – Police are intensifying efforts to arrest the suspect.

    – Forensic analysis of the crime scene is underway.

    – Calls for better policing and infrastructure in vulnerable areas grow louder.

This horrific incident has once again highlighted the dangers of online interactions and the urgent need for safer public spaces in Delhi.
