The Bluff: Priyanka Chopra’s Blood-Soaked Rebellion
The Bluff delivers a classic Schwarzenegger-style moment through Priyanka Chopra Jonas as Ercell Bodden, alias “Bloody Mary”, in a 19th-century pirate setting. Drenched in blood, her stark white dress becomes an arresting visual emblem that defines the film’s ferocious tone.
Streaming globally on Amazon Prime Video, the film opens with a scorching sequence that showcases Ercell’s grit as she eliminates intruders threatening her quiet life on Cayman Brac Island. The film’s brutal register is reinforced by tightly choreographed action set pieces, in which she handles pistols, machetes and gunpowder bombs with precision.
Priyanka is fully at ease in this action-led terrain. She entered Hollywood at a moment when crossover visibility was expanding and has since built a steady body of work across formats. From television successes such as Quantico and Citadel to studio projects like Baywatch, where she played the antagonist, she has navigated both commercial and character-driven roles. Priyanka extended her range with the romantic drama Love Again and joined a major franchise in The Matrix Resurrections. That trajectory informs her performance here, which relies on physical command as much as emotional restraint.
Living with her stepdaughter while awaiting the return of her husband, T. H. Bodden (Ismael Cruz Córdova), Ercell does not know that he has been captured by her former mentor, Captain Connor (Karl Urban). As Connor and Quartermaster Lee (Temuera Morrison) search for her hidden gold, the narrative shifts into a survival struggle across alligator-infested rivers, treacherous mangroves and a skull-lined cave.
The combat sequences are visceral, shot in sweeping wide angles and low-light compositions that intensify the atmosphere. Directed by Frank E. Flowers, the film is designed for a large-screen 4DX experience, yet it remains gripping on OTT platforms, driven by Chopra Jonas’s controlled, forceful performance.
