Indian Student Shot Dead in Canada in Crossfire; Was Waiting for Bus

21-year-old Mohawk College student Harsimrat Randhawa was fatally struck by a stray bullet during a gang shootout in Hamilton.

Ottawa: Harsimrat Randhawa, a 21-year-old Indian student, was shot dead in Hamilton, Ontario, while waiting at a bus stop on Wednesday evening. The incident occurred near Upper James Street and South Bend Road around 7:30 pm local time.

Hamilton Police stated that the student was caught in a crossfire between two vehicles—one of which, a black Mercedes SUV, opened fire on a white sedan. A stray bullet hit Harsimrat in the chest. She was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries.

Authorities are investigating and have assured the victim’s family of full support. The shooting has raised fresh concerns over the safety of Indian nationals abroad, as this incident follows a similar mysterious death of a Malayali youth, Finto Antony, earlier this month.
