In a decisive late-night operation, Indian armed forces targeted terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and PoK, retaliating for the Pahalgam attack. Named ‘Operation Sindoor,’ the strikes hit nine sites, prompting Pakistan to vow a response. India insists the action was measured and non-escalatory.

    Operation Sindoor Launched
New Delhi: Indian armed forces conducted precise strikes on terrorist sites in Pakistan and PoK early Wednesday, under ‘Operation Sindoor.’ The action, confirmed by the Ministry of Defence, targeted nine locations, including Muridke, Bahawalpur, Kotli, and Muzaffarabad, using standoff weapons from Indian airspace.

    Retribution for Pahalgam Attack
The strikes come two weeks after the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which killed 25 tourists and a local guide. India’s investigations linked the attack to Pakistan, prompting PM Narendra Modi’s government to promise a strong response. The Indian Army declared on X, “Justice is served. Jai Hind!”

    Pakistan Vows to Retaliate
Pakistan’s external affairs ministry condemned the strikes, claiming civilian casualties and asserting its right to respond “at a time and place of its choosing.” The attacks, which damaged buildings near Muzaffarabad, have heightened tensions following India’s recent punitive measures like suspending the Indus Waters Treaty.

    India Emphasizes Restraint
The PIB release highlighted that the strikes were “focused, measured, and non-escalatory,” avoiding Pakistani military facilities. Senior Indian officials briefed counterparts in the US, UK, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Russia, while President Trump urged both nations to de-escalate swiftly.

    Global Reactions Emerge
Jailed ex-PM Imran Khan warned of a “nuclear flashpoint,” while Farooq Abdullah noted India’s restraint despite cutting Pakistan’s water access. Anand Mahindra praised the operation, but opinions online remain divided, with India also blocking Pakistani artists like Hania Aamir on Instagram.

    Tensions Set to Persist
With diplomatic ties downgraded and the Attari border crossing shut, India-Pakistan relations remain strained. A detailed briefing on Operation Sindoor is expected later today, as the region braces for potential escalation amid global calls for restraint.
