Pahalgam Terror Attack: PM Modi Vows to “Wipe Out Terror,” India Weighs Strong Retaliation

Pahalgam Terror Attack: PM Modi Vows to “Wipe Out Terror,” India Weighs Strong Retaliation

NEW DELHI: In a forceful response to the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, which killed 26 people (mostly tourists), Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a stern warning, declaring that India will “wipe out the remaining land of terror” and ensure perpetrators face unprecedented consequences.

    PM Modi’s Strong Message

Speaking at a public rally in Madhubani, Bihar, Modi condemned the attack, stating:

“On April 22, terrorists killed innocent people in Pahalgam. The nation mourns, and we stand with the victims’ families. But let me be clear—India’s spirit will never be broken by terrorism. Those responsible will be punished beyond their imagination.”

He emphasized that India will track down not just the attackers but also their backers, signaling a shift toward decisive action against cross-border terrorism.

    Diplomatic & Military Measures

Following an urgent Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting, India announced major steps:

    1. Indus Waters Treaty Suspended – The 1960 pact with Pakistan is on hold until Islamabad irrevocably ends support for cross-border terror.
    2. Diplomatic Downgrade – Pakistan’s High Commission strength reduced from 55 to 30, military attachés expelled.
    3. Border Closure – Wagah-Attari crossing shut; visas for Pakistani nationals canceled.
    4. Military Options – Retaliatory strikes on terror launch pads, training camps, or even leadership hubs (like LeT’s Bahawalpur HQ) are under discussion.

    Defence Minister Rajnath Singh warned:

“We will reach those who plotted this attack—whether they hide behind veils or borders.”

    Global Solidarity & Pakistan’s Response

Modi thanked global leaders for their support, while Pakistan dismissed India’s Indus Treaty move as “cowardly.” Meanwhile, Pakistan’s military announced a missile test off Karachi, seen as a provocative gesture.

Why This Attack Crosses a Red Line

    • Unprecedented Civilian Toll: Tourists (many Hindus) were explicitly targeted.
    • Timing: Followed peaceful J&K elections, undermining stability.
    • Suspected Perpetrators: 2-5 attackers, some Pakistani nationals, trained across the border.

    What Next?

    India’s options include:

    • Surgical Strikes 2.0 (like Balakot 2019 but more extensive).
    • LoC Ceasefire Violation to curb infiltration.
    • Cyber/Warfare Tactics to disrupt terror financing.

With advanced weapons like Rafale jets (equipped with SCALP missiles) and the S-400 system, India is better positioned for precision strikes.

The Bottom Line: Modi’s rhetoric suggests a hardened stance—no more symbolic retaliation, but a sustained campaign to dismantle terror infrastructure.
