FBI Captures Punjab Terror Suspect in Sacramento
A Major Breakthrough
Harpreet Singh, alias Happy Passia, a key figure behind 14 grenade attacks in Punjab, was arrested by the FBI in Sacramento on April 18, 2025. Linked to Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), Singh allegedly orchestrated terror activities from the US using burner phones to evade detection.
The Chandigarh Attack
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) named Passia in a chargesheet for a September 2024 grenade attack targeting a retired Punjab Police officer’s residence in Chandigarh. Collaborating with Pakistan-based terrorist Harwinder Singh Sandhu, Passia provided funds and logistics for the operation.
International Terror Links
Singh’s affiliations with two international terrorist groups and his role in directing local recruits highlight the global reach of BKI’s network. The NIA continues to investigate to dismantle the group’s remaining operatives.
Punjab’s Ongoing Battle
Passia is wanted in 18 criminal cases in Punjab, including attacks on police establishments in Batala and Gurdaspur. His arrest marks a significant step in curbing ISI-backed terror modules in the region.
Global Cooperation
The arrest underscores the importance of international collaboration in combating terrorism, with Indian and US agencies working together to bring Passia to justice.
