Akhilesh Yadav Slams BJP Over Rising Dalit Atrocities, Labels Party ‘Feudal and Anti-Constitution’

Akhilesh Yadav Slams BJP Over Rising Dalit Atrocities, Labels Party ‘Feudal and Anti-Constitution’

Lucknow – Samajwadi Party (SP) chief and Lok Sabha MP Akhilesh Yadav has launched a fierce political attack against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing it of presiding over a surge in atrocities against Dalits, especially in Uttar Pradesh. His remarks, made through a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), were in response to a news report citing National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data that placed Uttar Pradesh at the top of the list for crimes against Dalits.

UP Tops the Chart in Dalit Atrocities

“Uttar Pradesh has become number one in atrocities against Dalits during the BJP rule,” Yadav said. Referring to NCRB statistics, he pointed out that over 15,000 cases of crimes against Dalits were recorded in UP alone, followed by BJP-ruled states like Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, and Maharashtra.

In his scathing post, the former UP chief minister questioned why the majority of such cases are concentrated in BJP-governed states and especially why Dalit women are disproportionately targeted.

    BJP Accused of Feudal Mindset

Yadav didn’t hold back in his criticism, branding the BJP a “party of traditional hegemonists” whose core ideology remains “feudal and discriminatory.” He accused the party of humiliating and sidelining marginalized communities, including Dalits, backwards, minorities, tribals, and women.

“BJP is still mentally living in pre-Independence India,” Yadav alleged. “The Constitution stands opposed to their mindset, as only a select few hold power, while the rest—especially the marginalized—are relegated to secondary roles such as holding flags, carrying carpets, or performing menial tasks.”

    Symbolic Representation vs. Real Power

Yadav also highlighted what he described as the BJP’s tendency to offer symbolic representation to backward and Dalit leaders without granting them real authority. “A Dalit or backward may receive a title or a designation, but never true power or position. Even elections are fought in their names, yet they are denied posts like Chief Minister or key cabinet portfolios,” he said.

The SP leader further implied that those from marginalized communities who remain within the BJP fold do so out of personal ambition or compromise, rather than conviction.

Political Timing Ahead of Modi’s Visit

Yadav’s remarks come in the lead-up to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Kanpur on April 24, setting the stage for an intensified political battle in the heart of UP ahead of the general elections. His comments are seen as part of the SP’s broader strategy to mobilize backward and Dalit voters by portraying the BJP as anti-social justice and elitist in governance.
