TOP OF THE MONTH:
Making a biopic is an art, and the film Michael demonstrates this effectively. Written by John Logan and directed by Antoine Fuqua, it brings to life the early years of pop icon Michael Jackson.
The story spans the 1960s to the 1980s, depicting his family life, upbringing, talent, and rise in music. It also captures the emotional struggles within the family, his bond with his parents, his ambitions, and his deep sense of compassion.
Jaafar Jackson plays the adult Michael, while Juliano Valdi portrays him as a child. Valdi is charming as young Michael, portraying his love for animals, which he treats as friends. As he grows older, this innocence remains. Jaafar Jackson delivers a strong and convincing performance.
Michael’s father, Joseph Jackson, forms the Jackson 5 and drives their success, but often claims full credit. His mother, Katherine Jackson, supports Michael and protects his individuality. Eventually, Michael parts ways with his father professionally and works with entertainment lawyer John Branca.
Despite resistance, Michael goes solo and succeeds. With support from Branca, his music reaches wider audiences, breaking barriers. His album Thriller becomes a landmark, with meticulous attention to detail in performance shaping its impact.
The film is a delight for fans and also a compelling introduction for those who may not be familiar with Michael Jackson’s life.
