India avenged the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack with precision airstrikes on nine terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and PoK under Operation Sindoor. The tri-services operation prompted Pakistan to heighten border alerts. India briefed UNSC members and scheduled an all-party meeting for tomorrow.

    Precision Strikes on Terror Camps
New Delhi: In response to the April 22 terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, which killed 26 civilians, the Indian Armed Forces launched “Operation Sindoor” on May 7, 2025. The tri-services operation targeted nine terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), including Jaish-e-Mohammed’s headquarters in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba’s base in Muridke. The 25-minute strikes, executed at 1:44 AM, avoided Pakistani military installations to prevent escalation.

    UNSC Briefing and Diplomatic Outreach
India briefed permanent and non-permanent UNSC members, including the US, UK, Russia, Saudi Arabia, and UAE, on the operation. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval emphasized the strikes’ targeted nature, addressing concerns given Pakistan’s 2025-26 UNSC non-permanent membership. The briefing underscored India’s commitment to counter-terrorism without broader conflict.

    Pakistan’s Reaction and Border Tensions
Pakistan responded by closing its airspace, suspending flights, and activating defense units along the border. Its military reported civilian casualties from retaliatory shelling in Poonch, Kupwara, and Baramulla. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif convened a security meeting, vowing a “forceful response” to India’s actions.

    All-Party Meeting Tomorrow
An all-party meeting is set for May 8, 2025, at 11 AM in Parliament’s Committee Room G-074. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju will brief opposition leaders, including Congress’ Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, on Operation Sindoor and national security strategies.

    Strategic Impact of Operation Sindoor
Named to honor women widowed in the Pahalgam attack, Operation Sindoor used SCALP cruise missiles and loitering munitions, destroying key terror infrastructure. Over 70 terrorists, including 10 of Masood Azhar’s family, were reportedly killed. The operation, conducted from Indian soil, showcased advanced military capabilities.

    Global Reactions and India’s Position
The UN Secretary-General called for restraint, while Russia voiced concerns over rising tensions. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri justified the strikes as a response to Pakistan’s failure to curb terror networks, citing intelligence of planned attacks. India reserved the right to preemptive strikes against cross-border threats.
