PM Modi Introduces Waqf Act 2025 to Address Muslim Community Concerns

    Responding to Over 1,700 Complaints

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, was crafted in response to more than 1,700 complaints from the Muslim community, with a significant focus on issues raised by women and widows. Speaking on Thursday in New Delhi during a meeting with the Dawoodi Bohra community, Modi highlighted that these grievances, received post his 2019 re-election, spurred the government to undertake necessary reforms.

    Empowering the Marginalized

Modi emphasized that the new legislation aims to rectify the injustices faced under the previous system, particularly targeting the empowerment of victims, including widows who were disproportionately affected. “The new law will soon resolve these grievances, earning the blessings of the poorest of the poor. I’ve been fighting to empower victims of the previous laws, especially widows,” he stated, underscoring the goal of delivering justice.

    Collaboration with Dawoodi Bohra Community

The PM acknowledged the valuable input from the Dawoodi Bohra community, noting his early discussions with Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, whose insights shaped the Act. The delegation, including business leaders, professionals, and educators, shared experiences of wrongful property claims by waqf authorities and expressed gratitude for the long-awaited reforms, praising the community’s social welfare traditions.
