Warm Welcome and Cultural Start to Vance’s Visit

New Delhi, April 21 — US Vice President JD Vance arrived in India on Monday morning for a four-day official visit, marking his first trip to the country since assuming office. The visit comes amid high-stakes negotiations between New Delhi and Washington for a bilateral trade agreement, with both sides seeking to resolve issues related to tariffs, market access, and broader economic collaboration.

Vance, accompanied by his Indian-origin wife Usha Chilukuri and their three children — Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel — was welcomed at the Palam airbase in New Delhi by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The family was given a ceremonial reception and the children were seen dressed in traditional Indian attire, reflecting the cultural warmth surrounding the visit.

Shortly after arrival, the Vance family visited Delhi’s iconic Akshardham Temple, taking part in a guided tour of the sprawling spiritual complex. The family is staying at the ITC Maurya Sheraton hotel in the capital during their Delhi leg.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the visit — which includes stops in Delhi, Jaipur, and Agra — is expected to “further deepen the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal welcomed the Vice President and his family in a social media post, emphasizing the significance of the ongoing discussions.
