The announcement, made by US President Donald Trump at 5:25 pm IST, came after Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations contacted his Indian counterpart at 3:35 pm, signaling a de-escalation in the wake of Operation Sindoor and retaliatory drone attacks.
Swift Diplomacy Halts Hostilities
The ceasefire was confirmed by India’s Ministry of External Affairs and Pakistan’s foreign ministry, marking a rapid shift from intense border clashes. Trump’s mediation, involving discussions with Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir, culminated in both nations agreeing to halt military actions. It will continue to do so”. He, in a post on X, informed that India and Pakistan have “worked out an understanding on stoppage of firing and military action”.
