Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s Stern Message to Pakistan: PoK is India’s Inseparable Brother, reaffirms PoK’s Place in India

New Delhi: On Thursday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh delivered a powerful message to Pakistan, emphasizing that Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) is an integral part of India and warning that those promoting terrorism will pay a heavy price. Speaking at an event, Singh likened PoK to a wayward brother who will inevitably return to India, drawing a historical parallel with Maharana Pratap’s brother Shakti Singh.

    PoK: A Brother Temporarily Astray
Singh reiterated that the people of PoK are India’s own, merely misled by external forces. “PoK is an inseparable part of India. I firmly believe that one day, the people of PoK will themselves declare, ‘I am a part of India,’” he said. Comparing PoK’s situation to the story of Shakti Singh, who briefly sided with adversaries before returning to his brother Maharana Pratap, Singh expressed confidence that PoK will reconnect with India’s mainstream. “They may be separated for now, but they will return to their family,” he added.

    Terrorism’s High Cost for Pakistan
The Defence Minister took a sharp jab at Pakistan’s role in fostering terrorism, stating that such actions are no longer “cost-effective” for the neighboring country. “Pakistan has realized the consequences of promoting terrorism. From now on, any dialogue will focus on PoK and terrorism,” Singh asserted. He highlighted India’s strengthened defense infrastructure under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, noting that the country is now better equipped to counter external threats.

India’s Vision for a United Future
Singh underscored India’s commitment to Modi’s vision of ‘Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat’ (One India, Great India). He expressed optimism that the majority of PoK’s residents feel a deep connection with India and will eventually rejoin the nation’s mainstream. “I am certain that PoK will one day say, ‘I am India, I have returned,’” he said. Recent surveys, such as a 2024 study by the Jammu and Kashmir Policy Institute, indicate growing discontent in PoK over economic mismanagement and lack of autonomy, further supporting Singh’s claims of a desire for reconnection with India.

    Bolstered Defense and Strategic Clarity
Under Modi’s leadership, India has significantly enhanced its defense capabilities, with increased indigenous production of military equipment and stronger border security. Singh’s remarks align with India’s proactive stance against cross-border terrorism, exemplified by operations like ‘Operation Sindoor,’ which targeted terrorist networks. According to a 2025 Ministry of Defence report, India’s defense exports have risen by 30% in the past two years, showcasing the country’s growing global influence. Singh’s message also resonates with India’s diplomatic efforts to highlight PoK’s human rights issues on international platforms, including the United Nations.

A Call for Unity and Strength
Singh’s statement is seen as both a reassurance to PoK’s residents and a warning to Pakistan. Political analysts view this as a continuation of India’s firm policy on PoK, with the government consistently asserting its claim over the region. “The Defence Minister’s analogy of PoK as a brother reflects India’s emotional and strategic commitment to the region,” said Dr. Anita Sharma, a geopolitical expert. As India strengthens its global standing, Singh’s words signal a resolute approach to reclaiming PoK through diplomacy, dialogue, and, if necessary, decisive action.
