High-Level Security Meetings
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on May 6, 2025, to discuss India’s response to the Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 people, mostly tourists, on April 22. This marks their second meeting in 48 hours, fueling speculation of imminent military action against Pakistan-based terror groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba, suspected of involvement.

Civil Defence Drills Nationwide
The Union Home Ministry has directed all states to conduct civil defence drills on May 7, 2025, citing “new and complex threats” amid rising tensions. Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan reviewed preparations, focusing on air-raid sirens, civilian training for hostile attacks, and restoring bunkers and trenches, to bolster readiness across 244 sensitive districts.

Escalating Cross-Border Tensions
For the 12th consecutive night, Pakistani troops engaged in unprovoked firing along the Line of Control (LoC) on May 5, targeting sectors like Kupwara and Akhnoor. The Indian Army retaliated strongly. This follows India’s diplomatic measures, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, which Pakistan called an “act of war.”

Modi’s Vow for Justice
PM Modi has pledged to pursue the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack “to the ends of the earth,” promising punishment “beyond their imagination.” The attack, one of the deadliest since the 2019 Pulwama strike, has drawn global condemnation, with the U.S. and UN urging de-escalation while India intensifies its counterterrorism efforts.
