Viral Sword Attack by Minor Stuns Mumbai Residents

In a disturbing act of public violence, a 16-year-old boy was caught on camera attacking vehicles with a sword in Mumbai’s Bhandup area on Saturday afternoon. The shocking incident occurred around 3:30 PM, alarming commuters and residents alike. Videos of the attack have gone viral on social media, sparking a debate on rising juvenile aggression and urban safety.

Caught on Camera: Teen Targets Bus and Truck with Sword

Clad in a white T-shirt, the teenager was seen striking the windshield of a moving bus with a sword while standing in the middle of the road. Eyewitnesses reported that the boy also targeted nearby trucks and was shouting incoherently during the rampage.

Passersby filmed the ordeal, which led to immediate outrage online. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the damages to the bus are estimated at nearly ₹70,000, according to initial police assessments.

    Swift Police Response: Minor Detained

The Mumbai Police responded swiftly after receiving the footage and detained the minor within hours. Officials confirmed that the boy was taken in for questioning and is currently under custody as part of an ongoing investigation.

Police revealed that the attack was not premeditated, but rather a result of an emotional outburst following a domestic dispute.

‘Scolded by Uncle’: Teen Cites Rage as Motive

During interrogation, the boy reportedly confessed that he had been angry after being scolded by his uncle, and decided to lash out by taking to the streets with a sword. Police officials noted that the teen admitted to committing the act as a form of revenge, but claimed no intent to seriously harm anyone.

    Complaint Filed by Bus Driver

The official complaint was lodged by Dnyaneshwar Sawairam Rathod, a 42-year-old bus driver from the Vikhroli depot. According to Rathod, the minor blocked his bus, threatened passengers with the weapon, and even attempted to stab him. The teen was also heard using abusive language, further escalating the fear among bystanders.

Ongoing Probe: Police to Counsel and Charge Minor

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the IPC and the Juvenile Justice Act. The police are also reviewing CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts to reconstruct the exact sequence of events.

While the teenager is underage, officials stated that appropriate legal action would be pursued, along with mandatory psychological counselling.

Public Reaction: Growing Concern Over Juvenile Crime

The incident has sparked widespread concern among residents of Bhandup, many of whom have questioned the safety of public spaces in the city. Community leaders have urged authorities to implement preventive measures, while police have appealed to citizens to report unusual behavior promptly.

As the investigation continues, the case has reopened conversations about mental health, parental supervision, and the rising trend of juvenile involvement in violent crimes.
