LoC Tensions Surge: Pakistani Troops Abandon Posts, Remove Flags Amid Indian Army’s Fierce Retaliation

By New Delhi Post Desk, New Delhi

Tensions along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir have escalated dramatically as the Indian Army launched a robust counter-offensive against Pakistan’s repeated ceasefire violations. Reports indicate that Pakistani soldiers have abandoned several forward posts and removed their national flags, signaling a tactical retreat amid intense cross-border firing.

    Indian Army’s Strong Retaliation
On April 29, 2025, the Indian Army responded with precision and force to unprovoked ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border in Jammu and Kashmir. Official sources report that the sustained retaliatory fire targeted Pakistani positions in Naushera, Sunderbani, Akhnoor, Baramulla, and Kupwara, forcing Pakistani soldiers to abandon several forward posts. In a symbolic move, Pakistani Rangers also removed national flags from these posts, reflecting lowered morale and a rare tactical retreat.

    Heavy Cross-Border Firing Intensifies
The exchange of fire escalated on Tuesday, involving nearly 20 forward posts along the LoC. Pakistani forces initiated unprovoked firing on Indian positions, prompting a powerful response from Indian troops. A senior defence official stated, “India’s retaliatory strikes were carefully calibrated but decisive, sending a clear message that ceasefire violations will not be tolerated.” The intense firing underscores the volatile situation along the border, with both sides maintaining high operational readiness.

Pakistan Declares No-Fly Zone Over Key Cities
In a significant development, Pakistan imposed a temporary No-Fly Zone (NOTAM) over Islamabad and Lahore until May 2, 2025, citing fears of a potential Indian airstrike. The restrictions prohibit both civilian and military aircraft from flying over these cities, a measure often taken during heightened military tensions. This move indicates Pakistan’s defence establishment is on high alert, anticipating further escalation following India’s strong retaliation.

    Strategic Implications and Regional Impact
Military analysts view Pakistan’s issuance of the NOTAM as a sign of growing apprehension within its ranks. The abandonment of posts and removal of flags suggest a strategic retreat, potentially weakening Pakistan’s position along the LoC. India, while refraining from further escalation, has reiterated its commitment to respond firmly to provocations. The situation remains fluid, with security agencies closely monitoring developments amid ongoing cross-border hostilities.

    Global Concerns Amid Rising Tensions
The escalation along the LoC has drawn international attention, with the United Nations previously urging both nations to exercise restraint. The tactical retreat by Pakistani forces and the imposition of a No-Fly Zone highlight the precarious nature of the conflict between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. As tensions continue to simmer, the region braces for potential further confrontations, with both sides showing no immediate signs of de-escalation.
