PM Narendra Modi told US VP JD Vance that India’s retaliation to Pakistani actions would be ‘more forceful, stronger, and devastating,’ a stance that preceded Pakistan’s ceasefire request.

New Delhi, May 12, 2025 — On May 9, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed a resolute message to US Vice President JD Vance. Amid rising tensions, Modi emphasized that any Pakistani aggression would trigger a severe Indian response, a position India maintained as Pakistan sought a ceasefire the following day.

    Operation Sindoor’s Impact
India’s military operation, codenamed Sindoor, targeted eight Pakistani airbases, airfields, and radar sites, alongside ground forces advancing near the border. The strikes, which killed dozens of Pakistani personnel, showcased India’s escalation dominance. This forceful action, as reported by Firstpost, compelled Pakistan to de-escalate and request a ceasefire on May 10, despite the Trump administration’s claims of brokering the truce.

    Modi’s Unyielding Stance
During his conversation with Vance, Modi listened to concerns about ‘alarming’ intelligence but stood firm. “If Pakistan acts, they’ll face a response more forceful, stronger, and devastating,” Modi stated, per a source. India’s message to global leaders since April 22 has been clear: terrorist actions will face consequences. This ‘fire-and-stop’ policy underscores India’s commitment to retaliate decisively while maintaining a defensive posture.

    No Equivalence in Conflict
India rejected attempts by mediators like the US and Saudi Arabia to equate the two nations. A source highlighted India’s position: “We cannot equate the victim and the perpetrator.” Operation Sindoor sent a message to terrorist groups that no place is safe, with India capable of striking deep into Pakistan. This operation reflects India’s new approach to impose costs on terrorism without tolerance for even-handedness.

Modi’s firm stance reshapes India’s defense narrative, signaling zero tolerance for terrorism. As tensions ease, India’s military resolve strengthens its position on the global stage.
