Indore couple’s dream honeymoon turns into a murder mystery as Sonam Raghuvanshi surrenders, allegedly orchestrating her husband Raja’s death.

Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh – On June 9, 2025, Sonam Raghuvanshi, wife of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, surrendered at Nandganj police station in Uttar Pradesh, days after her husband’s body was found in a gorge beneath Weisawdong Falls in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills on June 2. The couple, married on May 11, had gone missing on May 23 during their honeymoon, sparking a multi-state investigation.

    Surrender and Arrests
Sonam, who had been missing since the discovery of Raja’s body, turned herself in late Sunday night, appearing distressed at a dhaba in Ghazipur. Police report she surrendered “under pressure,” with four others arrested: Raj Kushwaha, Vishal alias Vicky Thakur, Akash Rajput, and Anand, linked to the crime. Meghalaya DGP Idashisha Nongrang revealed Sonam allegedly hired these men to kill Raja, a claim supported by the arrested suspects.

    Family Reactions and Motive
Raja’s mother, Uma Raghuvanshi, disclosed that Sonam insisted Raja wear gold jewellery worth over Rs 10 lakh, including a diamond ring and chain, for the trip, raising suspicions. She also noted Sonam planned the honeymoon, booking travel and stay but not return tickets, hinting at premeditation. Uma demanded strict punishment, questioning Sonam’s love for her son. Meanwhile, dhaba owner Sahil Yadav described Sonam as “mentally unwell and crying” when she called her family for help.

    Investigation Insights
The case unfolded with a tourist guide’s testimony of seeing the couple with three men on May 23, and evidence like a bloodstained machete and missing jewellery pointed to murder. Sonam’s family, including father Devi Singh, denies her involvement, alleging Meghalaya Police fabricated the case and calling for a CBI probe. The investigation continues, with one suspect still at large.

    Public and Next Steps
The incident has shocked the nation, with Raja’s wedding video surfacing, contrasting the couple’s joy with the grim outcome. Sonam is expected to be handed over to Meghalaya Police for further proceedings, as authorities probe deeper into the alleged affair and financial motives behind the killing.
