Air Hostess Alleges Sexual Assault at Gurugram’s Medanta Hospital While on Ventilator: ‘Two Nurses Were Present’

New Delhi: A 46-year-old air hostess from West Bengal has alleged that she was sexually assaulted by a hospital staff member while on a ventilator in the ICU of Gurugram’s Medanta Hospital. Disturbingly, she claimed that two nurses were present in the room during the incident but did not intervene, according to a report by The Times of India.

The woman had come to Gurugram on March 31 to attend a training programme organized by an airline operator in Darbaripur, Sector 75. She was staying at a hotel where she reportedly fell ill after swimming in the pool. On April 5, she was admitted to Medanta Hospital for treatment.

In her formal complaint, the air hostess stated:

“On April 6, while I was on a ventilator, I was sexually assaulted by a member of the hospital staff. I was physically too weak to resist or speak. Two nurses were in the room at the time, but they did not stop the attack.”

She was discharged from the hospital on April 13 and later informed her husband about the alleged incident. The couple then filed a complaint at Sadar Police Station. A case has been registered under charges of molestation and other relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

    Medanta Hospital Responds

In an official statement, Medanta Hospital confirmed that it is cooperating fully with the police investigation. However, it noted that no allegations have been substantiated so far.

“We have been made aware of a complaint from a patient and have been fully cooperating with the investigations conducted by the relevant authorities. At this stage, no allegations have been substantiated, and all relevant documents, including CCTV footage from the hospital for the time period in question, have been handed over to the police,” the statement said.

    Police Investigation Underway

Gurugram’s Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), Gaurav, stated that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Sadar ACP Yashwant has been formed to handle the case, given the serious nature of the complaint.

“The team has collected CCTV footage from the hospital and is questioning staff members who may have interacted with the patient during her stay,” said DCP Gaurav.

He also added that the investigation is being carried out from multiple angles and, due to the sensitivity of the matter, further details cannot be disclosed at this time.
