Chhattisgarh Police Bust Major Online Betting Network Linked to Ongoing Mahadev Scam Probe
Raipur: In a significant crackdown against illegal online betting, the Chhattisgarh police have arrested 14 individuals from various states for allegedly placing and accepting bets on IPL 2025 matches through the notorious Mahadev betting app. The arrests mark a major development in the ongoing investigations into what is being described as one of the countryโs most widespread digital gambling networks.
The case is already under the scanner of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is probing the financial and criminal dimensions of the Mahadev app betting scam โ one that has cast a long shadow over online gaming and digital financial crimes in India.
๐ Widening Web: Arrests from Six States
Raipur Range Inspector General of Police Amresh Mishra confirmed that those arrested were not confined to Chhattisgarh alone. The accused hail from a total of six states, indicating the pan-India spread of the illicit operation:
- ๐ Chhattisgarh โ 6 accused
- ๐ค Jharkhand โ 3 accused
- ๐ฃ Madhya Pradesh โ 2 accused
- ๐ต Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar โ 1 accused each
Police stated that the accused were actively involved in placing bets, collecting payments, and operating user accounts on the Mahadev app in connection with the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) matches.
๐ฑ How the Operation Worked
According to officials, the arrested individuals used the Mahadev app platform to create fake user IDs, communicate with clients through encrypted messaging apps, and handle large volumes of transactions โ often through UPI, crypto wallets, or shell bank accounts. Authorities believe this could be just the tip of the iceberg.
๐ต๏ธ CBIโs Ongoing Probe: Bigger Names Involved?
The CBI investigation, already underway in Chhattisgarh, is digging deeper into the financial nexus and political linkages associated with the Mahadev scam. The latest arrests are expected to provide more leads into a network that could potentially involve crores in illegal transactions during the IPL season alone.
๐ฃ Police Warning: More Arrests Likely
IG Amresh Mishra emphasized that the investigation is still ongoing, and more arrests are expected in the coming days. He urged citizens not to get lured by promises of easy money and warned that those involved in digital betting โ even passively โ could face serious legal consequences under the Public Gambling Act and Information Technology laws.
